Innovations and new lifestyles put pressure on existing laws, regulations and customary working methods of authorities and other public actors. Agile, iterative methods can create common policy development processes that keep pace with technology and market development. During 2018/19, RISE worked with 3 policy cases in the mobility sector.
Innovations in the transport sector can challenge current regulations and legislation because relevant policies simply do not exist, place obstacles to deployment or remain unclear. In order to catch up on technological developments and actually benefit from its diffusion in a sustainable way, these obstacles and ambiguities must be overcome faster than conventional decision making allows. Policy labs can be seen as a way to speed up decision making and increase its quality and acceptance.
Within the Strategic Innovation Programme "DriveSweden", RISE implemented 3 policy labs:
All policy labs involved several different actors, from the business community to the authorities, in particular the Swedish Transport Agency and the Swedish Tax Agency.
