Contact MatsIn conjunction with investments and renovations in paper and pulp production lines, it is common to conduct warranty runs. This may involve anything from replacing a sieve or part of the equipment to, for example, entire pulping or cooking plants. As an impartial party, RISE has extensive experience in evaluating the results of these runs.
In principle, Performance test involve taking samples around the relevant equipment before renovation or installation of new equipment. Once the equipment has been renovated or installed, the controlled warranty run is conducted at the agreed-upon time. On both occasions, personnel from MoRe are present to take samples for analysis.
We emphasize the importance of conducting measurements along the entire production line of the various components when production is running smoothly. This provides a good material for comparison during the warranty run. This is especially true in processes that are, so to speak, closely related to the raw material, as this is where the variations are greatest.
Evaluating a bark drum is an extensive procedure. We spend about three hours extracting approximately 200 sticks from the logs, which we then manually peel with a knife to assess the amount of bark present before debarking. Additionally, we measure the dry matter content and density. During the same period, wood chips are extracted and sieved. We examine the amount of bark remaining on the wood chips to determine the degree of debarking, as well as the amount of wood remaining on the bark, indicating wood loss. These investigations are conducted both before and after renovation to assess the renovation's effect.
If a digester has been renovated, we conduct both a pilot cook with the customer's own process conditions in our pilot digester and analyses of the factory pulps before and after renovation.
The reasons we are often hired for these jobs are the combination of our process expertise, our own pilot equipment, and an analysis department with powerful resources. Additionally, we remain neutral, which is, of course, a prerequisite for this type of assignment.
The investigation is conducted at two main locations: at the mill itself and on the specialized equipment that RISE has developed specifically for the task.
When the investigation is carried out at the mill, it involves conducting analyses and tests directly on-site where the manufacturing process takes place. This may include sampling raw materials, monitoring the production process, or performing various measurements and tests on the products being produced. Working directly at the mill provides us with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the process and to collect data in its natural environment.
On the other hand, we also utilize specialized equipment developed by RISE to conduct investigations related to the task. This equipment may be designed and tailored for specific tests or experiments required to examine various aspects of the process or products. These facilities can be advanced laboratories or pilot plants designed to mimic and study different production conditions in a controlled manner.
By combining investigations at both the mill and RISE's specialized equipment, we can gain a comprehensive understanding of the process and products. This enables us to identify any challenges or areas for improvement and to develop tailored solutions that meet our customers' specific needs and requirements.
Expertise:
RISE has deep expertise and extensive experience in studying wood, both at industrial-scale mills and in pilot-scale facilities. Through decades of research, development, and application, RISE has established itself as a leading player in this field.
Regarding studies of wood at the mill level, RISE has worked closely with various stakeholders in the wood and paper industries to understand and optimize the processes used to convert wood into various products such as pulp, paper, and biofuels. This means that RISE has insights and understanding of the complex dynamics and challenges inherent in industrial-scale production of wood-based products.
In addition to mill-level studies, RISE also has extensive experience in conducting wood studies at the pilot scale. Using advanced equipment and technology, RISE can simulate different production conditions and test new processes and techniques before they are implemented on a full scale in mill environments. This pilot-scale research and development enable improvements and innovations in the wood and paper industries and allow for the identification and resolution of problems before they become costly at the mill level.
RISE's broad knowledge and experience in wood studies make us a reliable partner for companies in the wood and paper industries striving to improve their processes, increase efficiency, and reduce their environmental impact. By providing tailored solutions and expertise, RISE can help companies achieve their goals and remain competitive in an ever-changing market.
RISE offers a report that includes data in Excel format and relevant images and diagrams. It is carefully compiled using standard methods for the conducted analyses. The report also includes an assessment of measurement uncertainty to ensure the reliability of the presented results. All relevant parameters significant to the specific analysis are included to provide a comprehensive picture of the situation.
