Determination of mass per unit area using small samples.

The mass per unit area method is used for all types of textile materials, like knitted, woven and nonwoven materials. With or without coatings and in several layers or as single parts.

Purpose

A textile material is often specified on its surface weight. To be able to check this the surface weight is calculated, mass per unit area. 

Method

SS-EN 12127:1997 / ISO 3801:1977-metod 5 Textiles – Fabrics – Determination of mass per unit area using small samples. 

One test is consisting of 5 specimens that is conditioned in a defined climate and measure 1dm2 each. The specimens are weighted and the mass per unit area is calculated.  

The method is accredited according to ISO 17025
