Investigation of historic mortar for building restoration

Purpose

We offer analysis of historical mortars and consultation on historical building materials and applications.

Non-cementitious binders in historical constructions require special treatment, analysis, and  eventual restoration. The restoration material should be chemically and physically compatible with the original material. Any design of applications must be done in a manner that does not affect the original wall or building.

Method

Particle size distribution analysis of aggregates from historical mortar linked to restoration.

Chemical analysis using micro X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction of lime-based binders and mortar.

Deliverable

Test results are presented in a written report that includes interpretation assistance. In situ investigation can also be provided.
