R&D engineer with focus on extrusion and food technology
Do you want to apply technologies to develop innovative and sustainable foods? The food system is facing major changes with respect to both climate and public health. RISE works with the entire agricultural and food chain and combines knowledge in innovative technologies, systems and products in order to obtain a sustainable food production and consumption.
Product Design at RISE is searching for a Research and Development Engineer with focus on extrusion and food technology. We are twenty persons working with technology and design of foods and other biobased materials, assisting industry in with product development and applied research. Topics range from novel plant-based meat and dairy analogues and 3D-printed food for seniors to materials applications of nano-cellulose and marine biopolymers. We combine expertise in practical experimental activities and test beds, especially www.ri.se/sv/test-demo/pilotproduktion-av-livsmedel, with advanced instrumental analysis in structure, materials science and aroma.
The role as R&D engineer includes independent practical work in our test and demo facilities especially focusing on twin-screw extrusion of food products. It also includes prototype development combined with fundamental understanding of the raw material properties and how the process influences the final product characteristics. All work is conducted in close collaboration with our customers, who range from SMEs to large multinational companies. The role also includes responsibility and training for various equipment and maintenance of the food grade pilot plant as well as contact with customers, establishing and maintaining a network within industry and coordinating and running projects. The work is always in close collaboration with other colleagues and competences, within and outside RISE.
Who are you?
You like challenges and look for solutions, and like working together with colleagues and industrial clients. Experience of independent work applying process technologies to develop food products is key, particularly previous experience from food extrusion. We think you have a master's degree in engineering (or equivalent). Experience from the food industry in production or product development is a strong merit.
You should be able to independently plan and perform practical experiments in our test and demo environments and enjoy maintaining and developing customer contacts. You are fluent in English, both in writing and verbally, and good knowledge in Swedish is a strong merit. We are constantly challenged with new opportunities and problems, and we cannot promise you an easy job, though a job together with enthusiastic colleagues who collectively contribute to sustainable development and competitive industrial applications.
