Digital konferens om Design för hållbara städer (del 2)

Välkommen till den andra digitala konferensen om Design for Sustainable Cities – ”Progressive North” den 30 september 2021 kl 13:00-15:30

För att lösa klimatkriserna och andra samhällsutmaningar vi står inför måste konst, kreativitet och design agera tillsammans med vetenskap och teknik för att hitta nya sätt att förändra samhället.

Med underrubriken Progressive North kommer man under denna andra digitala konferens om Design för hållbara städer att fokusera på förändringar av samhället som kommer att krävas i enlighet med New European Bauhaus samt de utmaningar man ställs inför. Vid mötet kommer man också att diskutera vad det kan komma att innebära för olika industrier inom området.

Talare inkluderar bland andra:

  • Olga Kordas, Programchef Viable Cities, KTH
  • Peter Larsson, Regeringens samordnare för samhällsomställningen i norra Sverige

För organisationen står RISE, Viable Cities, Peter Larsson samt flera andra intressenter.

 

Vi välkomnar politiker, forskare, beslutsfattare, arkitekter, designers, stadsplanerare, entreprenörer och andra intresserade till diskussionen.

New European Bauhaus initierades av av Ursula von der Leyen, EU-kommissionens ordförande, i januari 2021. Initiativet sammankopplar European New Green Deal med människors livsmiljöer för att tillsammans bygga en hållbar och inkluderande framtid med design, kultur och kreativitet som utgångspunkt.

Konferensen hålls på engelska och är öppen för alla intresserade i att vara del av ett växande community av kreativa tänkare, experter, forskare och kreatörer.

Design for Sustainable Cities #2 – Progressive North

13:00-13:15 Welcome, introductions – Design for sustainable cities – a north European transition case study

Pia Sandvik, CEO of RISE, the Swedish research institute. RISE is one of Europe’s largest research institutes and since June 2021 RISE is also home to a new European Design Competence and Excellence Centre for Inclusive innovation.

Olga Kordas, Programme director, Viable cities. Viable Cities is a strategic innovation program focusing on the transition to climate neutral and sustainable cities. Its mission is climate neutral cities by 2030 with a good life for all within planetary boundaries.

Peter Larsson is the Swedish government coordinator for the societal transition with larger establishments in northern Sweden.

Anna Pettersson, Director of regional development, Region Västerbotten

Moderator is Andrew Dubber. Andrew is the director of Music Tech Fest, a Steering Board Member of the Industry Commons Foundation, the founder and author of New Music Strategies, and an advisor to Bandcamp and Sonaris Music AI. He is an academic, broadcaster, DJ, record producer, podcaster and the author of several books about music, media and technological change.

 

13:15-13:30 An EU perspective – what does the New European Bauhaus contribute in this societal transformation?

Michela Magas is Chair of the Industry Commons Foundation. Michela bridges research and industry with a track record of over 25 years of innovation. She is innovation advisor to the European Commission and the G7 leaders, and Member of President von der Leyen’s High Level Round Table for the New European Bauhaus. Michela is well equipped to see the potential added value of the New European Bauhaus and the EU mission on cities to the ongoing and needed societal transformation as she also lives in northern Sweden.

 

13:30-14:15 Intro + Panel: Potential and challenges in designing a thriving societal transition – the case of northern Sweden

How do you create an attractive place – what does it consist of? What is it?

In this panel representatives from Amsterdam and the expanding Swedish cities of Skellefteå and Umeå share their thoughts on potentials and challenges in the societal transformation, relevant from an international perspective, climate-neutral production and consumption, inclusion etc.

The city of Amsterdam will share their work with a policy of inclusion, cultural diversity and participation through culture and creativity in the city planning and development.

14:15-14:45 Intro + Panel: Business perspectives on designing the industrial and societal transition

- What is the business and industry perspective on attractive, sustainable, inclusive places and living environment?

- Is industry included in “the 15 minute city” and other city concepts? What could such an urban design look like?

- How does this relate to skills supply, and a broad, innovative and creative labour market and business eco-system?

Karin Ahnqvist, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Boliden Rönnskär AB. Rönnskär is one of the world's most efficient copper smelters. The smelter is a world leader in electronics recycling thanks to investments and developments in Kaldo technology, extracting primarily copper, gold and silver from these materials.

Emilia Lindmark, CEO & Co-founder, EoE Eyewear — Sustainable eyewear from Swedish Lapland. EoE has developed a process and a product that from used frames could create a new material and new frames, from recycled material.

Demian Horst, Head of Department at Umeå Institute of Design, part of Umeå University, and ranked as one of the top industrial design educations in the world. Demian has a background in industry for General Motors in Germany and involved in production design connected to the brands Opel and Saab.
