Master thesis: Innovation Management System

This thesis is for you who is interested in the practice on innovation management, and how it may benefit by a systems approach!

Thesis subject
The interest for a systems approach for innovation management is growing. A potential trigger for organizations to address this may be the publication and deployment of the international guidance standard for Innovation Management Systems, ISO 56002.

This master thesis will focus innovation management systems, and will utilize the guidance standard for innovation management systems as a framework for studying innovation capabilities in organizations.

Thesis assignment
The task will be to, on the assignment of RISE, conduct interviews with companies in industry regarding their innovation capabilities. The work with the thesis will be closely related to a research project, that in turn will contribute to the growing body of knowledge in innovation management system. The thesis will have its own research questions to respond to but will also formulate a research approach related to the overall research project, as well as contributing with data and results to the overall research project.

In the assignment you will perform a literature study, design detailed research approach, gather and analyse data, as well as concluding results and implications. What organizations to interview will be finally decided by RISE, related to the overall research project.


  • We would prefer a team of two students
  • Scope: 30 hp
  • Location: Office at RISE, Drottning Kristinas väg 61, Stockholm, but also online to a large extent
  • Start Time: Agreed during the recruitment process

Student profile
You are a master student with a good understanding of innovation management, from a relevant master program. We expect you to be able to gather empirical data mainly in interviews and to do proper analysis of this. Interviews may be conducted in both Swedish and English.
