Master thesis: Innovation Management Professionals
This thesis is for you who is interested in the practice on innovation management and how the role of innovation management professionals is developing!
The innovation management area is undergoing a process of professionalization. A significant sign of this professionalization is that, ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, are developing and publishing a family of standards addressing innovation management. Another sign is that a wide-spread diffusion of job titles including innovation can observed.
In Sweden, Innovationsledarna, the Association for Innovation Management Professionals in Sweden was founded 2013. Innovationsledarna was involved in developing the world’s first personal certification (according to ISO17024 Certification of persons) of Innovation Management Professionals, which was launched 2017.
It is of high interest to follow the current development within the innovation management area and this master thesis will focus on personal certification as a mechanism and an expected contributing factor to this professionalization. The study should draw from knowledge regarding both innovation management and certification as a part of professionalization.
The objective of the study is to investigate in the areas of
- motivation for people to entering the certification process as an innovation management professional (including re-certification process as well)
- results and effects from having a certification as an innovation management professional that can be identified on both individual and organizational levels
- how this potential can contribute to enhanced innovation capabilities and innovation performance
In the assignment you will perform a literature study, design relevant research approach, gather and analyse data, as well as concluding results and implications. You will gather data from people that have been certified through RISE as innovation management professionals. These respondents will be found in different types of organizations such as companies, municipalities, science parks etc., all over Sweden and on some occasions outside Sweden. Interviews and potentially a survey should be used as main methods.

- Scope: 30 hp
- Location: Office at RISE, Drottning Kristinas väg 61, Stockholm, but also online to a large extent
- Start Time: Agreed during the recruitment process
You are a master student with a good understanding of innovation management, from a relevant master program. We expect you to be able to gather empirical data both in interviews and survey and to do proper analysis of this. Interviews may have to be conducted in both Swedish and English. In this assignment, reaching out to respondents in many different contexts is necessary, therefore communication skills are important.
