Fire test of cables for trains EN 60332-3-24

EN 60332-3-24 is a fire test method whose test results form the basis for fire classification according to EN 45545-2 "Fire protection on railway vehicles – Part 2: Requirements for fire behaviour of materials and components".

Purpose

Testing according to EN IEC 60332-3-24 examines the vertical flame spread when the cable is fire tested. Test results form a basis for fire classification according to EN 45545-2 "Railway vehicle fire safety - Requirements for fire safety of materials and components".

Series EN IEC 60332-3-21, EN IEC EN IEC 60332-3-21, EN IEC 60332-3-22, EN IEC 60332-3-23, EN IEC 60332-3-24 and EN IEC 60332-3-25 describe standardized test methods that previously formed basis for fire categories A / FR, A, B, C and D according to SS 424 14 75 "Cables - Testing of fire properties ".

SS 424 14 75 now refers to the European method for fire classification of cables, EN 13501-6.

Method

The fire test lasts for 60 minutes. During the first 40/201) minutes, the cable is exposed to a burner of 20.5 kW. After the burner is extinguished, another 20/401) minutes may elapse before any remaining fire/glow is extinguished and the extent of fire-damaged length of the cable is measured. Before testing, the cable is mounted in 3.5-meter lengths on a test ladder. Depending on the cross-sectional area of the conductor, the cable lengths are mounted on the test ladder with or without spaces.
1) Exposure time 40 min refers to the methods EN IEC 60332-3-21, -22 and -23 while the exposure time 20 min refers to the methods EN IEC 60332-3-24 and -25.

The cable lengths are evenly distributed on the test ladder. During the fire test, the ladder with the cable lengthss are placed vertically against a wall in a combustion chamber. In front of the ladder the burner is placed at a distance of 7.5 cm from the cable lengths.

Deliveries

The fire test results are summarized in English in a test report delivered in digital format.
Video of the testing can also be obtained.

It is interesting and instructive to watch fire testing and therefore we welcome our clients to visit us at the test occasions.

More information

"Kabelkiosk" - Utrustning enligt EN IEC 60332-3-10.

Delivery time

Delivery time for accredited test report is usually 4-8 weeks.
Preliminary test results can be shared when the fire test has been carried out, which is usually about 4 weeks after the test material has been delivered to RISE.

Preparations

Materialåtgång/antal kabellängder beror på hur stor volym icke-metalliskt material per meter teststege (l/m) som krävs:
EN IEC 60332-3-21: 7 l/m
EN IEC 60332-3-22: 7 l/m
EN IEC 60332-3-23: 3,5 l/m
EN IEC 60332-3-24: 1,5 l/m
EN IEC 60332-3-25: 0,5 l/m

En kabellängd är 3,5 m.
