Analysis of Anthraquinone in Products and Dispersions

Anthrachinone is a chemical compound typically occurring in the form of yellow needle-shaped crystals. It is utilized as a dispersion agent in the boiling process of sulfate pulp to enhance yield.

Purpose

By ensuring accurate dosing of anthraquinone, one can optimize the process and maximize the output, which is crucial for efficient production and high quality of the resulting product. Therefore, precision and accuracy in measuring the amount of anthraquinone are essential to achieve desired results and improve the production process.

Analyses of anthraquinone are common across various industries and are used to examine process fluids, pulp, paper, and tall oil. This analysis method is particularly beneficial for chemical suppliers who need to monitor the quality of their own anthraquinone product or oversee the anthraquinone content in their raw material suppliers' products. By carefully measuring and monitoring the concentration of anthraquinone, suppliers can ensure that their products meet the specified quality standards and consistently deliver high-quality products to their customers.

Pulp mills also benefit from this analysis method as they need to ensure that the anthraquinone they use is of the right quality. This is crucial because anthraquinone plays a significant role in the pulp manufacturing process and can affect the properties of the finished paper. Pulp mills can also benefit from anthraquinone analysis if they are considering switching suppliers of anthraquinone dispersion. By thoroughly evaluating and comparing the anthraquinone content from different suppliers, mills can make well-informed decisions to ensure they receive the best quality raw materials and optimize their production process to achieve desired results.

It is also possible to analyze very low concentrations of anthraquinone in wastewater with a quantification limit of 5 micrograms per liter (µg/liter). This ability to detect and quantify anthraquinone at extremely low concentrations is of great importance for environmental monitoring and water treatment systems. By analyzing the anthraquinone content in wastewater, one can monitor the presence of this compound and assess its potential impact on the environment.

Being able to measure anthraquinone at such low concentrations enables the detection of potential contaminants and the monitoring of the effectiveness of various treatment techniques. This is especially important to ensure that wastewater discharged into the environment does not contain harmful levels of anthraquinone or other potentially hazardous substances. Analyses of anthraquinone in wastewater thus provide a crucial indication of environmental impact and help ensure that water quality is maintained at a safe level for both humans and ecosystems.

Methods, Instruments and Expertise

RISE utilizes gas chromatography to meticulously analyze high concentrations of anthraquinone in various products such as pure anthraquinone and anthraquinone dispersions. By employing this advanced analytical method, we can obtain detailed and reliable results of high quality.

The method we employ enables us to conduct repeated analyses of the same sample at different times while still achieving a high degree of consistency and conformity between the results. This is confirmed by the relative standard deviation, which is less than 1% in repeated analyses. Achieving such a low standard deviation indicates the high precision and reproducibility of our analyses using gas chromatography.

Gas chromatography (GC) is a key technology within research and development at RISE. GC is an advanced analytical method that separates and quantifies various chemicals in sample mixtures. It facilitates the identification of pollutants, quantification of substances, and characterization of complex mixtures.

GC is utilized across various sectors, including the food industry for flavor analysis, the pharmaceutical industry for quality control, environmental science for monitoring air and water pollution, and materials science for analyzing material composition.

Expertise:

In addition to our expertise in analytical methods, RISE also possesses well-developed competency in handling and preparing samples, especially industrial fluids and materials. This ensures that our analyses are conducted with high precision and reliability, instilling confidence in our customers regarding the obtained results.
