Analysis of anthraquinone in anthraquinone products and dispersions

Anthraquinone consists of yellow acicular crystals and is a form of dispersion used in the cooking of sulphate pulp to improve yield. To get a consistent quality of the process, it is important to know the exact amount of anthraquinone to bet the right amount.

Cause

It is common to analyze anthraquinone in process liquids, pulp, paper and tall oil. The method is useful for chemical suppliers who want to control their anthraquinone product or the anthraquinone content in their raw material suppliers' products. Pulp mills that want to ensure that the anthraquinone you buy are of the right quality, or that change supplier of anthraquinone dispersion, also benefit from this method.

It is also possible to analyze very low concentrations of anthraquinone in waste water with a quantification limit of 5 µg / liter.

Method

Gas chromatography is used to analyze high concentrations of anthraquinone in anthraquinone products and dispersions of anthraquinone with much higher accuracy and precision.

In repeated analyzes of the same sample at different times, the method gives a spread of less than 1%, measured as a relative standard deviation between the analyzes.
