TESTOMAT Project – The Next Level of Test Automation
Quality software has come to mean “easy to adapt” because of the constant pressure to change. Consequently, modern software teams seek a delicate balance between two opposing forces: striving for reliability and striving for agility. The TESTOMAT project will help software teams to strike the right balance.
Aim and goal
The TESTOMAT project will allow software teams to increase the development speed without sacrificing quality. To achieve this goal, the project will advance the state-of-the-art in test automation for software teams moving towards a more agile development process.
Challenge
Rapid market evolution forces the European industry to switch to a more agile way of working. Indeed, with the rise of agile development, software teams all over the world embrace faster release cycles as *the* way to incorporate customer feedback into product development processes. Yet, a faster release cycle implies rethinking the typical view on software quality. Indeed, quality software has long been synonymous with software “without bugs”. Today, however, quality software has come to mean “easy to adapt” because of the constant pressure to change. Consequently, modern software teams seek for a delicate balance between two opposing forces: impeccability vs. changeability.
Solution
The project will ultimately result in a Test Automation Improvement Model (TAIM), defining key improvement areas in test automation, with the focus on measurable improvement steps. The project will present a series of stepwise improvements to provide software teams with a roadmap for improving their automated testing in a cost-efficient fashion.
Effect
By pushing their test automation to the next level, companies developing software-intensive systems can reduce their testing costs. Furthermore, the TAIM will influence relevant industry safety standards to endorse evidence-based best practices for test automation, in line with the UN Sustainability Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
