Sound environment in station communities, digital tool for noise measures
Densification at stations can create more climate-neutral transport and resource efficient travel, but noise can be a limiting factor for sustainable solutions. The project will develop a digital tool box that makes it possible to describe the effects of planned noise measures at an early planning stage.
Aim and goal
The idea of the project is to develop digital tools to facilitate investment in innovative noise measures on or in connection with railway infrastructure close to stations and contribute to climate benefit, health and resource-efficient solutions
Challenge
Rail traffic is expected to increase in the coming decades and major investments w ill be made in Sweden. Densification around stations has the potential to create more climate-neutral transport and resource-efficient travel. But the noise problem is a limiting factor for sustainable and effective solutions.
Solution
The digital toolbox will provide the opportunity to virtualize the environment at the early planning stage to describe the effects of planned noise measures when implemented and then calculate socioeconomic costs and benefits, impact on property values and climate impact. The project is implemented in three phases, definition, implementation and dissemination of results. In the final phase, the results of the project are spread at workshops with active participation from the recipient group. The project is carried out by a project constellation of researchers and actors from the Mistra Urban Futures Program, while InfraSweden2030 participates actively in the implementation through a reference group as w ell as recipient and distributor of project results.
Effect
The project will contribute to the development of more sustainable cities and communities by developing more effective tools to use in the planning process of noise measures in the station communities.
