Contact LottenThe demand for eggs from poultry in outdoor system is increasing. However, there is limited knowledge if and how these systems affect the environment. The project intends to investigate the environmental impact in this type of production system and develop concrete proposals for improvements.
The aim of the project is to create a viable and profitable egg production based on new knowledge on sustainable production system for laying hens in outdoor system.
The project aims to 1) develop guidelines for risk assessment for leakage of phosphorus from outdoor paddocks, 2) Identify parts of production and technical solutions that can reduce phosphorus load and 3) Evaluate sustainability, the capacity to bind phosphorus and impact on animal production and health in relation to investment costs of two ground cover material.
