Hydrogen Light System

Projektet HyLite, Hydrogen Light Systems, ska se över möjligheten att lagra, transportera och regenerera kraft från vätgas med lokalt ursprung.

There is a great need for clean, efficient and robust energy systems. The function and development of our energy system does not take place today at the required speed, which results in a change that society is undergoing. Now that we are also moving towards more fluctuations in Nordic energy production, there is a greater interest in and need for stable and locally produced power.

The project will explore and design a system solution that demonstrates the possibility of combining local energy systems, regarding function and safety, as part of an integrated overall circular energy system. The local energy system must also be able to function as its own independent system, and the project wants to demonstrate the possibility of producing electricity from local sources that enable balancing in the grid and cut power peaks. The energy system must be able to be manufactured with a high degree of recycling, where vital parts are made from locally developed steel, based on mainly recycled material, as an alternative to fossil-based components.

Target groups and goals

The project's target groups are property owners, academia, residents, municipalities and community planners. A move towards sustainable and renewable energy systems requires commitment from, and cooperation between, several different actors, for example national authorities, local rescue services, planners and the construction industry.

The goal is that the project's results in the next step lead to a demonstration of an innovative, building-integrated, smart energy system that interacts with the user and automatically acquires data from weather services and electricity prices, in order to best achieve an intelligent control of the system. Furthermore, the system must have its own local renewable energy source, which makes the production local and emission-free.

Stakeholders are, for example, property owners and/or actors who have an interest in creating a more resilient energy system. Together with local production, the system can function both individually or as reserve power for the electricity grid.

RISE part in the project

RISE works in the project with evaluation of the feasibility of the technical solutions but also with the potential for implementation in a societal perspective. These perspectives are highlighted by reviewing the laws and regulations that apply and carrying out a risk assessment as well as simulation of the energy system for dimensioning and control. Innovations are central to change, but they require changes in laws and norms to become part of the new design.
