ECOPRODIGI

International collaboration and digital tools to lead to more efficient processes and reduced environmental impact within shipping.

Aim and goal

ECOPRODIGI is an international collaboration project with the goal of developing digital solutions within the shipping industry in the Baltic Sea. The purpose of the project is to contribute to more efficient processes and reduced environmental impact for the entire shipping industry. The project mainly focuses on three areas where digital solutions is expected to play a major part regarding increased eco-efficiency:

  • Vessel performance monitoring
  • Cargo stowage for RoRo/RoPax-vessels
  • Processes at shipyards

Challenge

The project focuses especially on ro-ro and ferry vessels as the segment is unique in the Baltic Sea area and represents an important integrated part of the region’s infrastructure and economy. There is also a need to strengthening the shipping industry and to reduce environmental impact in the region in the form of both air and water pollution.

Solution

Through digital solutions, ECOPRODIGI highlight the eco-efficiency challenges of the shipping industry at all stages of the vessel lifecycle from design and building to the use, maintenance, stowage as well as conversion processes. The project develops concrete pilot solutions to better measure, visualise and optimize industry processes. ECOOPRODIGI is also designing a digitalisation road map for increasing eco-efficiency, as well as policy recommendations for authorities, etc.

Effect

By developing digital solutions, ECOPRODIGI is expected to highlight the environmental impact of shipping and contribute to more efficient processes and reduced environmental impact for the shipping industry in the Baltic Sea.
