Digitalisation and optimisation of rail infrastructure

The rail infrastructure needs improvements in prediction of future maintenance, status surveillance and traffic optimisation, both nationally and internationally. By introducing new measurement methods and measurement systems in the existing traffic there is potential to enable predictive maintenance of the infrastructure.

This requires accurate positioning and a measurement system that can detect common wear and tear, in for example. railway switches.

Purpose and goal

With ongoing data collection of high quality, a detailed digital track profile on each section of the track system can be modulated. This can later be used for example detection of abnormal track changes over time.

Expected results and effects

The purpose the Project is verify the measurements bases on new technologies in an innovative way to combine energy savings with maintenance monitoring on existing infrastructure.

Planned approach and implementation

The preliminary study will show the accuracy and new possibilities that the new system will provide compared to the existing system. An evaluation of measurement systems will be done with needs and market analysis and reported at an industry workshop
