Climate-neutral Linköping 2030

Linköping is one of the new cities within Viable Cities initiative Climate-neutral cities. The goal of the project is to create cities adapted for the citizens, society and the climate. This by testing new ways of working, processes and engage relevant actors (meaning all of us!).

The project’s long-term effect goals is to speed up the transition in the local climate- and sustainability development in Linköping. Holistic digitalization and usage of digital tools will be key. The project will unify and enforce the efforts in the municipality – both regarding citizens, civil society, business and the municipal organization – to accelerate the climate transition. The project emanates from the local climate- and energy program under development. Focus will be the following areas:

  • Real estate, premises and operations
  • Building and construction
  • Moblity and transport

Within the project the municipality will disseminate knowledge and learnings from test beds to new projects and improve its processes, e.g. regarding city development, procurement and digitalization to enable continued innovation. Involving and engaging both citizens and other relevant actors is a priority.

Climate-neutral cities

Viabe Cities is a strategic innovation program funded by Vinnova, the Swedish Energy Agency and Formas. The programme focuses on the mission to create climate neutral and sustainable cities. Within the programme the initiative Climate-neutral Cities 2030 was created, where municipalities develop and sign a climate contract and work with innovation for climate transition. The goal is to create cities adapted for the citizens, society and the climate. This by testing new ways of working, processes and engage relevant actors (meaning all of us!).

RISE part in the project

RISE will mainly work with the digital transition needed in the municipality to enable the societal transition aimed for. This includes processes for collection, management and sharing of data to increase the ability for innovation. This ability can include citizen engagement, understanding of the current state locally, follow up targets or broadcasting results or knowledge.

An example is to follow energy data from source (building) to potential users and define technical and organizational points where ownership changes. This in the testbeds Ebbepark and/or Vallastaden. This is to enable better understanding and follow-up of energy consumption in the municipality and create organizational prerequisites in the city to collect and share other kinds of data in a similar manner.
