China-EU Water Platform
China-EU Water Platform is a platform for the exchange of knowledge and cooperation in water-related issues between China and representatives of the European Union.
Goal and Objective
Improve EU-China cooperation on water management in urban areas with the main focus on stormwater management.
Challenge
China, as well as many other countries around the world, are facing major water-related challenges caused by rapid urbanization and climate change. Many cities today, paradoxically, suffer from both acute water shortages and recurring floods. China and Europe have great opportunities to learn from each other. Compared to the EU, implementation of measures in China is very rapid and usually on a larger scale. The collaboration provides the opportunity for European decision-makers to learn about the benefits and problems of less stringent rules for testing and implementing new methods. Chinese stakeholders, in turn, can benefit from European know-how.
Solution
Exchange of knowledge through joint research projects and study visits in both Chinese and European pilot cities.
Influence
The project will contribute to exchanges in the areas of business and technology, politics and research and innovation.
