The boundary between goods and services is slowly being blurred: A package of milk comes with a home delivery service, and elderly care services include a physical safety alarm. So how can we make the best use of societal resources to increase our capacity for transition? Service innovation involves leading and building structures for innovation and transition. It can resolve needs and make us more resource efficient by consuming fewer raw materials, more time-efficient by reducing staff resources in healthcare, and more sustainable by sharing products instead of owning them.
To meet these needs, RISE combines applied service research, design, innovation management, data, digital solutions, output measurement, norm critical analysis, and social mobilisation. We have experimental resources, such as service labs, which support the development of new solutions, ways of working, and structures. This often takes place in meetings among the public sector, academia, trade and industry, and civil society, since co-creation, a holistic perspective, and user needs are central aspects.
