Reducing the environmental impact of cement and concrete
Homes, buildings, tunnels and bridges; cement is the world’s most widely used building material. Durable, flexible and almost maintenance-free – it is also demanding on the environment, not least due to the large amounts of carbon dioxide emitted during its manufacture. We can simultaneously reduce the environmental impact of cement and increase its lifespan by working from a life-cycle perspective when choosing materials and maintenance methods. The recycling of concrete is another important field of research.
