An environment featuring customised equipment and unique expertise, primarily for developing a value chain for cost-effective carbon fibre, based on lignin from a sulphate pulp mill.
The infrastructure and expertise is currently primarily used for developing a value chain for cost-effective carbon fibre, based on lignin from a sulphate pulp mill (forestry raw materials). The facility consists of:
- Equipment for processing prior to the spinning of filaments.
- Melt spinning (mono- and multi-filaments, up to 80 filaments) and electrospinning on a lab scale.
- Stabilisation and carbonisation furnaces.
- Equipment for studying material properties and quality development from lignin to carbon fibre.
- Automated measurement of filament strength.
- Microscope, SEM and other characterisation methods.
The environment is tailor-made for developing lignin-based carbon fibre. It can be used by customers at any point in the value chain, from forest to composite component in a finished product.
