Project partners in POPFREE
POPFREE is a project financed by Vinnova that brings together 29 project partners from industry, academia, organizations and research institutes. Our partners represent different parts of the value chain and each one plays an important role for the project.
Producers of chemicals and alternative solutions
Chemical producers will offer material to be tested, adaption of materials in order to meet functional criteria, and in depth knowledge of testing. Their expertise in compatibility between chemical products in formulation and compatibility between different consecutive chemical treatments of materials will be invaluable.
Manufacturers of products using PFAS or alternatives, B2B
In the value chain, these actors are active users of the chemical products or other alternative solutions in production. Hence, a close dialogue on use and properties in their process as well as supply of proper materials to be tested will be important tasks for these companies.
Manufacturers of consumer products
To secure function of the end product (professional user or private consumer) properties of the alternative products have to be tested thoroughly. The ultimate goal is to produce prototypes. Thus, both lab tests and field test can be applied.

An important part in substitution is to have a market pull. In some of the sectors the awareness is quite high, in other sectors the pull is not yet their why consumer behaviour and awareness is of importance. Communication work will therefore be included in the project via actors representing NGOs, consumers and others that can influence and create public knowledge.
RISE is a Swedish research institute and innovation partner. In collaboration with companies, academia and the public sector, RISE contributes to a competitive industry and a sustainable society. RISE contributes with basic knowledge in surface and colloid chemistry, functionality testing, formulation and testing according to industry standard and development of materials and production processes. RISE works with a wide range of materials such as paper, textiles, fire extinguishing foam, cosmetics and ski slopes.
Peak Innovation (PI) is a VinnVäxt initiative at Peak Region Science Park, with support from the region Jämtland-Härjedalen and Vinnova. An important task for PI is to support research-driven innovations within the Swedish sports and outdoor industry with knowledge of sustainability. PI will coordinate industry partners in ski wax, textiles and leather, and participate in the dissemination of knowledge in the sports and outdoor industry.
Mittuniversitet in Östersund and the Sports Tech Research Center department has an important role in the development of the test methodology for ski wax and knowledge about performance for ski wax.
