PFAS cause great costs for society

26 June 2019, 20:59

The use of highly fluorinated substances (PFAS) every year causes between 52 and 84 billion euros in health economic costs in Europe. This shows calculations in a study published by the Nordic Council of Ministers on March 18, 2019.

- The case studies in the new report provide valuable knowledge about how people and the environment are exposed to PFAS, and what this exposure can cost society. The report is an important basis for deciding on additional risk management measures, says Mona Blomdin Persson, department manager at the Swedish Chemicals Agency.
