Milestone reached in the ANIARA project

The AINET-Aniara project MidTerm Review (MTR) was conducted in Berlin April 27th. RISE ICE Datacenter and our partners in work package 5, working on power and infrastructure of EDGE Datacenters.
We presented our two-rack EDGE Datacenter demonstrator, and how a future distributed EDGE datacenter infrastructure can be utilized for energy flexibility services, such as frequency control and peak load shaving in the power grid.
Before the review we also moved our EDGE datacenter demonstrator outside for a field test, to show that it truly is IP65-classified, and manages the cold spring conditions in northern Sweden. It was a milestone in the project.
AI-NET ANIARA is a sub-project of the CELTIC-NEXT umbrella project AI-NET, with funding from Vinnova (Swedish partners), BMBF (German partners), and Innovate UK (UK partners).
The primary objective of the ANIARA project is to provide enablers and solutions for high-performance services deployed and operated at the network edge. To manage complexity, we need to take advantage of artificial intelligence to complement traditional optimisation algorithms. Currently, deep edge network nodes will be deployed at locations not prepared for the power requirements of edge-centric compute. To answer this, we need to analyse requirements and develop methods to minimize energy consumption.
